When the team behind COMO Golf Club started planning their indoor golf venue in Columbia, Missouri, they had a clear vision: build something that could grow with them. What started as conversations about booking software turned into a real partnership that's shaped how we build VTeeGolf.

The Perfect College Town Location

Columbia isn't just any mid-sized city—it's home to Mizzou and over 30,000 college students. That creates a pretty unique customer base. You've got students looking for something fun to do on weekends, parents in town for football games, young professionals grabbing drinks after work, and serious golfers who want to play year-round despite Missouri winters.

The COMO team recognized this mix early on. They weren't building a stuffy country club simulator room—they wanted a place where a group of friends could grab beers and hit balls on a Friday night, but also where a scratch golfer could come in Tuesday morning to dial in their iron game before a tournament.

Starting with Members, Then Going Public

One thing COMO did differently was their launch strategy. Instead of opening the doors to everyone on day one, they started member-only. This gave them time to work out the kinks, train their staff, and build a core group of regulars who felt invested in the place.

From a software standpoint, this meant we needed to handle members-only booking periods before opening up public reservations. It's the kind of feature that sounds simple but requires thought—members needed their own booking windows, their own pricing, and a smooth transition when public booking eventually opened up.

Three Membership Tiers That Actually Make Sense

COMO landed on three membership levels, each designed for different types of customers:

Founders Membership

Their top tier for the early believers. These folks get the best rates, priority booking, and were instrumental in getting COMO off the ground. Limited availability—once they're gone, they're gone.

Eagle Membership

For the regulars who play frequently. Solid discounts on bay time and priority access during busy periods.

Birdie Membership

An entry-level option for people who want some perks without a bigger commitment. Good for the casual player who comes in a few times a month.

Setting this up in VTeeGolf meant building out membership management that could handle different discount levels, booking priorities, and renewal tracking. Each tier needed its own pricing rules that applied automatically at checkout.

Dynamic Pricing for a College Town

Here's where things got interesting. A college town has some pretty predictable patterns—football Saturdays are insane, weekday afternoons are slow, and Friday nights pick up when students are looking for something to do.

COMO uses our dynamic pricing tools to adjust rates based on demand. Higher prices during peak weekend hours help manage capacity, while lower weekday rates fill bays that would otherwise sit empty. It's not about squeezing customers—it's about matching supply and demand so they can stay profitable while keeping things accessible.

The membership discounts layer on top of this too. A Founders member booking a prime Saturday slot still gets their discount applied to the peak rate. Getting all these pricing rules to work together without conflicts took some iteration, but it's running smoothly now.

Building the Platform Together

Honestly, working with COMO has pushed us to build a better product. When they needed member-only booking windows, we built it. When they wanted specific reporting on membership usage, we added it. When their staff needed a faster way to check in walk-ups, we streamlined the admin flow.
